EMMANUEL SACKEY

BOARD CHAIRMAN

Emmanuel Sackey holds a Master of Philosophy degree (M.Phil) in Food Science and Technology with specialization in Product Development and Food Biotechnology, B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry, Diploma in Education (Dip Ed), Diploma in French Studies (DELF) and a number of certificates in Project Management, Leadership and Feasibility Studies. He obtained the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Fellowship to undertake Six-month post-graduate studies in biotechnology and intellectual property at the Swedish Patent and Registration Office, Stockholm, Sweden in year 2000. 

He has proven performance and skills in IP knowledge transfer and capacity building, policy and legal developments including facilitating the establishment of two ARIPO Protocols (Swakopmund and Arusha Protocols) and implementation of ARIPO’s mandate on copyright and related rights, drafting of working documents for the Organs of ARIPO, awareness creation and research.  He has over 25 years of experience in IP development and management, IP norm setting, substantive examination of patent applications, IP analysis and dissemination of IP information related to technology, brands, statistics and economic studies,. As a WIPO Fellow, he has gained broad and comprehensive knowledge of the evolution of the global IP system and the role it plays in transforming the economies of developing countries.

He has travelled across the world (75 Countries) and made presentations on IP policy developments and promotion of innovation and creativity for economic development and growth. He has published several articles on IP and contributed to the publication of 4 books including “informal economy-hidden engine of innovation in developing countries” which was published by the Cambridge University Press in September, 2016 and “Intellectual Property Law, Practice and Management” published in 2018. 

He is currently the Intellectual Property Development Executive at ARIPO where he manages three (3) departments, namely the Copyright and Related Rights department, Legal and Policy department and the ARIPO Academy. He lectures Intellectual Property at the Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe, University of Dares Salaam in Tanzania and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi Ghana. He is also the chairman of the Intellectual Property Network Ghana and Board member of Corporate and Charitable Institutions in Ghana
